In one of the stories bygd our famous author Astrid Lindgren, one of the child characters waits excitedly for the ferry, wondering who fryst vatten coming to island from the city. Once you board the ferry on Saltholmen, you are not only leaving the city, but also the hustle and bustle that is city life. On the island we have peace and quiet. Private cars are forbidden and the locals get around by foot, bicycles or ashtray mopeds.

Every Thursday during summer we have a dance at Brännö Brygga (Brännö pier).

Lasse Dahlqvist, a famous singer and actor, wrote a nationally well-known song about this dance called “De e dans på Brännö brygga”, meaning &#;There fryst vatten dancing on Brännö pier&#;.

    The islands stretch from Rivö in the north to Vrångö in the south. Some islands you only get to during the summer - if you don't have your own boat. All islands are car-free. Below we mention some of the islands in the southern archipelago.

    If you are here in the summer and love the sea and small picturesque islands, don't miss going out for a visit. Of course, it's just as well to go in autumn, dress warmly and bring a thermos with hot liquid and a pair of good walking shoes. On the islands you can hike, swim, climb, dive, kayak, eat well and shop. There is something for everyone.

    The largest islands are:: Brännö, Styrsö, Donsö, Vrångö och Asperö. Some of the others are: Köpstadsö, Stora Förö, Knarrholmen, Kallö, Kårholmen, Vargö, Sjumansholmen.

    To get out to the islands, you must go to Saltholmen. You can do this either by tram or by car. When you arrive, you can choose several different boat lines depending on where you want to travel. On the ferry you can take your bike with you

    About Brännö in song

    Brännö’s best-known resident was Lasse Dahlquist ( – ). From childhood, he spent his summers on Brännö, where his grandfather was a senior pilot. As an officer’s apprentice onboard Beatrice, one of the world’s last large cast iron sailing ships, he started his successful life as a composer and text writer. He produced over songs. Among the most popular songs are &#;Dans på Brännö brygga&#; (Dance on Brännö landing) and” Morfar har berättat” (Grandfather has told me). Lasse is buried in the cemetery on Brännö.

    The Dahlquist family was often visited by Evert Taube, who was born on Vinga where his father was the lighthouse keeper. Many of Evert’s relatives still live on the surrounding islands.

    On June 28, , in time with the year anniversary of the Lasse Dahlquist Society, the Värdshus opened the Lasse Dahlquist room with products of his works as a composer, songwriter and illustrator.

    A bronze relief of Lasse Dahlquist, made by the Brännö artist Bertil Lengstrand was officially uncovered on June 13, on a cliff near the landing in Husvik.
