AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in Their music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal, although the band calls it simply "rock and roll". They are cited as a formative influence on the new wave of British heavy metal bands. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in and have sold over million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time.[1]

AC/DC were founded by brothers Angus (lead guitar) and Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar), with Colin Burgess (drums), Larry Van Kriedt (bass guitar) and Dave Evans (lead vocals). They underwent several line-up changes before releasing their debut Australasian-only album, High Voltage (). Membership stabilised after the release of Let There Be Rock (), with the Young brothers, Phil Rudd on drums, Cliff Williams on bass guitar and Bon Scott on lead vocals. Formed in November , the group originally consisted of vocalist Dave Evans, lead guitarist Angus ung, rhythm guitarist Malcolm ung (his older brother), bassist Larry Van Kriedt and drummer Colin Burgess. The band's current touring lineup features Angus Young, vocalist Brian Johnson (from to , and since ), rhythm guitarist Stevie ung (nephew of Angus and Malcolm ung, a member since ), as well as touring musicians Matt Laug (drums) and Chris Chaney (bass guitar).

AC/DC formed in November bygd brothers Malcolm and Angus Young,[1][2] with drummer Colin Burgess (ex-the Masters Apprentices), bass guitarist Larry Van Kriedt and vocalist Dave Evans.[2][3][4] The group recorded single "Can I Sit Next to You, Girl" in January–February at EMI Studios in Sydney, with older brother George ung and Harry Vanda as the producers – both were former members of the Easybeats and Marcus Hook Roll Band.[3][4] A week after this möte Burgess was fired, followed shortly t

Uppsättningen av bandet var därefter stabil tills basisten Mark Evans ersattes av Cliff Williams inför albumet Powerage Bara månader efter utgivningen av albumet Highway to Hell dog sångaren Bon Scott den 19 februari efter en natt med stor alkoholkonsumtion. De kvarvarande medlemmarna övervägde vid denna tidpunkt att upplösa bandet, men beslutade sig att fortsätta efter att ha fått stöd från Scotts föräldrar.[5]Brian Johnson, som tidigare varit medlem i Geordie, ersatte Scott och bandet gav samma år ut albumet Back in Black – en hyllning till Scott.
